within your reach, beyond your expectation!
| In the fifteen years since its inception, Saddletime Farm has evolved into a highly successful Morgan horse enterprise and has grown to include Once Upon A Horse, a riding lesson program for communicatively impaired children. As a speech-language pathologist, I work with a variety of communicative handicaps including stuttering, articulation errors, language disorders, developmental delays and autism. Once Upon A Horse allows me to repay in kind and to provide a safe haven for special-needs kids where disabilities fade and skill strengths emerge in response to magic of Morgan horses. | |

Once
Upon A Horse was created to enrich the lives of communicatively
impaired individuals and to teach life-altering skills...work hard, do your best and serve
the good of the order. The Kids Special-needs individuals are often faced with failure in social and academic areas...they generally read poorly, experience frustration with receptive and expressive language, exhibit poor social skills, and lack the physical abilities to compete in athletics. |
| Once
Upon A Horse provides a positive and constructive environment where
special-needs kids are met with success and acceptance while learning valuable life
skills. Animal therapy is a constructive interaction for individuals with disabilities,
and the magic of Morgan horses provides a safe haven where they can succeed while building
self-confidence and self-esteem based on the rewards of real accomplishment.
Responsibility, discipline and improved communication skills are learned while working
with horses, which in turn, provide experiences that are personally rewarding and
character building. Once Upon A Horse was created primarily for special-needs students, but typically-developing children are invited and welcome to participate. |

The Horse Saddletime Momentum, an excellent example of Morgan type and tractability, is the primary lesson horse for students enrolled in Once Upon A Horse. Justin Morgan, the namesake and foundation sire of the Morgan horse breed, was foaled in Randolph, Vermont in 1789. The Morgan horse is truly an American treasure and is often referred to as "The Pride and Product of America." Morgan horses have served in every American war from the Civil War to World War I and their bravery, endurance, and zest for life have endeared them to presidents, cowboys, and families seeking the ideal show and pleasure horse for their personal enjoyment. Morgan horses are beautiful, upheaded, kind, eager to please,easily-trained,and people-oriented which makes them the ideal family horse. Morgans are known for their unequalled versatility...trail riding, pleasure driving, show ring performance, working cattle, 4-H and especially mounts for the handicapped. |
